How to Use iPhone Duo One-Handed with Reachability

The PathRank Team · · 2 min read

The outer screen on iPhone Duo is wide, and some early reviews said it was hard to use with one hand. Apple said a fix would come in a software update. It arrived on November 3 in the first iOS 27.3 beta: Reachability, turned sideways.

How it works

On other iPhones, Reachability pulls the screen down. On iPhone Duo it shifts the outer display’s content left or right instead.

With iPhone Duo closed:

  • Make a short swipe left on the left edge to shift the content left.
  • Make a short swipe right on the right edge to shift it right.

Turn it on or off

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Reachability. MacRumors reports it’s on by default after you update, so you only need this if you want to turn it off.

If you’re left-handed

The Duo’s taskbar sits on the right side of the screen, which Tom’s Guide points out makes one-handed use harder for lefties. Reachability helps here: a short swipe left on the left edge brings the content to your left thumb.

The outer keyboard got smaller too

The same iOS 27.3 beta also tweaks the keyboard on the Duo’s outer screen. The keys are narrower and the font is slightly thinner and smaller, first spotted by Beta Profiles and reported by 9to5Mac on November 5. 9to5Mac says that makes one-handed typing on the outer screen easier.

When you’ll get it

Right now iOS 27.3 is a developer beta. 9to5Mac expects a public beta in the coming days and says Apple plans to ship iOS 27.3 to everyone in December, most likely mid-month. If you rely on your Duo for work, waiting for the full release is the safer bet.

Capture with one hand

One-handed use matters most when you’re grabbing something quick: a voice note after a meeting, a thought on the walk out. PathRank turns voice notes, meeting notes and pasted text into a prioritized to-do list, so you can talk now and sort it out later.
